We frequently hear Gomen, Suimasen or
Moshiwakegozaimasen (sorry) in Japan.
Japanese seem to be taught the importance of apologies.
And alas some family members who never apologize
have been surprisingly respected and honoured here.
They live at the huge palace as you know.
